Rayas Blanket
Rayas Blanket
These sumptuous brushed wool blankets are made by local elders from hand spun undyed and naturally dyed wool on traditional standing looms.
The history of weaving in this village dates back to the late 1700s, and these blankets are made with hand spun wool. Every throw is woven on a standing loom, then taken to the local sulfurous hot springs for an intensive felting process that cleans the blankets of oil, dirt and impurities, and also makes for a thicker, more resistant piece. After this, the blankets are brushed to release loose fibers, which makes for a silky soft blanket.
