From the Artist
The abstract paintings that I create are a result of an exploration within the symbiotic relationship between music, movement and emotion. Within this triad of elements, a space is formed where I can be free, the only occasion when I am liberated from my anxiety, judgment, and expectations. The music is the fundamental fuel, powering movement, the most natural response, and ultimately enabling my creative impulses to work freely on the canvas.
In my process I am liberated from expectations, those imposed both by the world and by my own mind. For a brief few hours I am my genuine self, expressing my emotional landscape through the inspiration I find in music. Every drip and splash is a reminder of this brief and glittering time of weightless freedom.
Johanna Palmieri
Johanna Palmieri (b. 1991) is an American artist based in Oaxaca, Mexico. She has always painted for the joy of the process, striving to create works that can provide to others that intangible pleasure she finds in so many artworks, both old and new.
Self-taught after studying Art History at Indiana University, she has worked through the exploratory process of personal styles on her own, initially drawing on images from an earlier, less technology-burdened time before expanding into full abstraction.
